Coming from California where bird of paradise plants (Strelitzia reginae) line the sides of the roads, I took them for granted. Now that we're in central Texas, I really miss seeing them everywhere. This one hangs over my desk where I can enjoy it every day. After living here three years, the local greenhouses are finally starting to carry them, so this last summer we bought two big ones. We just hope they'll bloom, here, and that we can keep the accursed grasshoppers from eating them.
