Desert Rose #2

I am absolutely in love with the flowering plants here, expecially the prickly pear cactus. I was ecstatic to find a huge sprawling patch of them out beyond our woods, amid the stone parts of our lion fountain (long story). This spring they erupted with delicate, bright yellow, rose-like blooms all over the green paddles. I waded through them, having a great time snapping photos, when I felt things starting to poke me and realized that my clothes were covered in hundreds of tiny spines uncharitably donated by the cactuses. I couldn't even sit down to pull them out much less get back into the van to drive back up to the house. I did finally get them all pulled out and the pictures I got made it all worthwhile, because those delicate flowers didn't stay around very long.
